According to how you choose to live your life the stats change automatically (walking with the dog, education) or manually (socialize, do something for yourself, order some dish at a restaurant). go to a theatre with friends, and you can select the people you want to hang out with and look what they like), get a new job (I started as a female waitress but wanted to become a journalist), buy stuff (I bought a dog) or get education. The only thing I didn't really understand was the goal (if there is any) but I assumed that you're supposed to maintain good 'states', or possibly gaining as much 'kudos' as possible (I didn't earn any btw). I didn't read any manual or whatsoever, I don't know if there is one but the game gives plenty of hints.
